PQI – Portuguese Quantum Institute is an institution dedicated to developing research, innovation, policy, training, and scientific dissemination in the field of Quantum Technologies. Its scientific research activities cover quantum computing, the quantum Internet, and quantum sensors. This work is developed in the context of several European projects, and in collaboration with industry. PQI is also active in the European Quantum Technologies programme, and in training projects in this field. Furthermore, PQI coordinates the World Quantum Day initiative, celebrated globally on 14 April, as well as the World Quantum City Prize, developed in the context of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, 2025.

The Galician Network of Quantum Technologies is a collaborative initiative that brings together the regional government, universities, research centers, and industry in Galicia to build a robust ecosystem around quantum technologies. 

Its mission is to coordinate infrastructure, promote joint R&D projects, support specialized training, and encourage the adoption of quantum technologies in strategic sectors of the Galician economy—such as health, food, energy, industry, and logistics. 

By 2030, the goal is for Galicia to become a leading region in quantum technologies, particularly in quantum computing and quantum communications. The region has already deployed the longest operational Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) network in the Iberian Peninsula, connecting Santiago and Vigo, and it hosts a 32-qubit quantum computer at CESGA (the Galician Supercomputing Center).
